The European Food Safety Authority: New Varieties of Genetically Modified Soybeans are Safe

Recently, the European Food Safety Authority, EFSA which is famous for not accepting modern technology, confirmed the genetically modified soybeans produced by Monsanto are safe. 

  According to EFSA's report, the genetically modified soybeans contain a number of enzymes which will change the composition of lipid, which leads soybean oil containing four new kinds of fatty acid, and linoleic acid content will be reduced. EFSA noted that the change of the composition of lipid  in soybean oil “is unlikely to cause toxicological risks, nor will affect nutrition of soybean adversely." 

  In the United States, according to the  data of US Department of Agriculture, processing soybean products is the largest source of animal protein fodder, and the second largest source of vegetable oil. Animal protein fodder and vegetable oil have a wide range of applications in the world. So if this soybean can be approved by the EU Member States, it will have a profound impact on growers and processing.
